Who is Jesus?

We are all broken... we just don't like to admit it.  What if there was someone who could truly fix our brokenness, not just patch it or give us a “how to” book but come in and restore us?  Would we take him up on it?

 Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Son of God. Fully man and fully God.  He is the only way to salvation, the only way to peace, the only way to forgiveness, the only way to life and the only way to God.

What does it mean to follow Jesus?

It means to admit that He is God and we are not. It means to admit that we are broken and only He can fix us. It means for us to repent of our sins and make a covenant to follow Him.

What is sin?

God made the world perfect, but then man chose to sin. Sin is an ancient archery term that means missing the mark.  God has a set standard with no gray area, when we miss His standard we sin.  This sin breaks everything it touches, us, the world around us, everything.

Why does following Jesus fix this?

Jesus lived a perfect life, breaking the bondage sin held over all creation then He died the death that sin leads to - the death meant for you and me.  But He did not stay dead.  You see Jesus was not only a perfect man who lived without missing God’s mark in any way; He is God Himself.  He paid the debt for our sins, took the punishment that we deserved for all the wrong things we have done, died, and rose alive again.  Because He fully defeated sin and death we can trust Him to make us right too.  To restore us to a close relationship with God now and forever more.

How do I accept Christ?

Simply pray a prayer like this in your own words.  “Father, I realize that you are truly God and I am not.  I am broken and I can not fix it on my own.  I ask you to forgive me of my sin and help me to live a life that is close to you and is true to you.  I thank you for what you have done for me, and I will never take it for granted.  In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.

What do I do next?

The next step is to find a church close to you where you can grow in your faith.  Just because you have accepted Christ does not mean the world is suddenly an easier place to live.  You will still have bills to pay and problems to face - but you no longer have to do it alone.  By finding a church home you will not only have God with you but a family of loving people who will walk beside you and help you grow - if you let them.  If you live in the Cleveland, Tennessee area then we would love to see you at Oak Grove Baptist.  Check out our worship & study page for our service times and contact us anytime via Facebook MessengerEmail,  or call us at (423)479-9125.

What about Baptism?

Baptism is the step after you have prayed to accept Christ where you publicly say that you are going to follow Him. When you are baptized you are briefly immersed in water.  This is a picture of Jesus’ life, death, burial, and resurrection.  It is your first act of obedience as a follower of Jesus Christ.
